Rotogravure printing

ROTOGRAVURE PRINTING

Rotogravure printing is primarily a long-run, high-speed, high-quality printing method.

An intaglio printing process - involving engraving the image onto an image carrier

Rotogravure or gravure printing is a printing process that uses rotary printing capable of producing continuous tone images. Like engraving, gravure is a form of intaglio printing that produces fine, detailed images. It can be used for printing where each color of ink is applied by its own cylinder and also involves drying steps in between.

Large, copper plated steel cylinders are engraved with the chosen design using a laser or diamond tipped stylus. The engravings are referred to as 'cells' and are etched in differing depths, with deeper cells providing deeper colours. Like flexography, gravure printing is often used for high-volume printing of packaging.
